Maxed out the loan numbers for today's visit with 3 cards! We're at the end of our homeschooling curriculum for the year and mummy decided to borrow all the suggested books at one go for the last two units (on pig and koala). There are just so many interesting and attractive books for the piggy unit, but not that many for the koala. :P
And with Christmas around the corner, mummy borrowed some books about Christmas too and we'll be reading them together. Tonight, we read This First Christmas Night and Faith enjoyed it so much that mummy had to repeat the book three times! :) Went to the library earlier this week to get books for our new unit. Always love going to the library and then exploring the new books with Faith. Besides the prescribed reading books for the new unit on Tiger, Orange and Forgiveness, I've also borrowed other books to supplement our reading at home, including some Chinese books (not shown in picture). We've recently just started introducing Fairy Tales to Faith and she's liking her first story on Three Little Pigs. She loves the "I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your house down". She just loves the repetition to the extend that Mummy or Daddy has to say "stop" or "last time ok". :P Looking forward to sharing more fairy tales with her soon. Little Dog Lost was a book we borrowed with the last batch. Faith still requested for the book after we've returned it and so Mummy went to search for the same book again. It is based on a real-life story of a dog which was lost at sea and was later rescued. And Joseph's Colorful Coat - a bible story brought alive with wonderful illustrations. :)
I thank God for the energy to continue the homeschool activities for Faith. As she gets more and more cheeky and vocal, and sometimes persistent (or insistent) on things, it does wear out Mummy's patience at times. Breathe breathe...
Here are some photos from last week's learning: 1) French toast for breakfast - lovingly prepared by Tita Irene (our helper) with a dog shaped cookie cutter, to be in line with our animal of the month. 2) Learning about colours - we have not used Dot markers in a while and I brought it out for Faith that day. She usually prefers to dot the colours as she likes but thank God she was able to follow instructions rather closely that day. (Still spot one yellow dot on the big blue square!) This week we start off a new unit on Dogs, Friendliness and Light Blue. Thanks to Papa who brought Faith to the library yesterday, we have new books to start off the unit. In view of my confinement during this period, Mama has prepared some of the learning resources in advance. :) During the trip to the library, Papa also activated Edward's library card and with at least 6 books borrowed, we are entitled to get a goodie bag of good reads and some reading guides. It's really an investment to get the young to start reading. We're glad that we started Faith young; and Edward too (soon). Papa also brought Faith to the Dog Park at Nex. Faith enjoys looking at the animals and loves to say "hello" to them. :) Sharing one of the favourites of Faith at the moment - Good Night Gorilla. We started reading this book as prescribed reading (part of homeschool curriculum) about 3 months back. We read this book almost every night and Faith is still enjoying the book.
The book has very few words in speech bubbles and some pages, no words at all. This allows the reader to be exercise one's creativity and imagination. That's probably why Faith enjoys the book so much - as Papa is so animated when it comes to reading books to Faith! :) Faith chose her favourite Yellow for this activity again. With the MFW curriculum, we started writing numbers today, "1". Faith was able to follow by starting right at the top with the dot as a guide. After several strokes, she shifted her attention to the Panda and started colouring it instead. :) Faith's piece of work:
Papa is concerned that Faith is not having enough for breakfast. Today, we tried to make breakfast a little more fun with a cookie cutter - a squirrel shaped one in line with the current homeschool curriculum. Papa helped to apply some Brown chocolate peanut butter on it too, but Faith only took a few nibbles. We tried to feed her Brown coco crunch too but she ate only a little. Haiz.... Week 38 - We visited Dr Paul today as Papa will be busy with some guests in town the next few days. Dr Paul is just back from his holidays and has a lot of patients to clear... Mummy's weight: 58.9 kg Baby E's weight: 3.2 kg Dr Paul confirmed that the second baby won't be early cos Number 1 (Faith) was late and that baby number 2 will be heavier. Looking forward to meeting Baby Edward very soon! :) Monday - We started on a new unit this week. Time passes so fast and we are almost halfway through the homeschool curriculum already! :)
As usual, we went to the library to borrow reading books for the unit. This time round, we went to the Serangoon library, which was smaller, and many of the prescribed books were either not available or out on loan. Mummy had to search on the catalogue on the spot for other suitable titles. In the afternoon, we went to the supermarket for our usual grocery shopping as well as to search for some Brown foods. We bought mushrooms and potatoes! Today - We did our usual flashcards, reading and then Faith did some colouring of the Brown bear. Our activity yesterday - we did some puppets of Lion and Mouse to go with the prescribed reading book. See Faith having fun with her puppets! She enjoys it even more when Papa reads her the book, with the puppets during bedtime reading. :) What we did today? We did some colouring. Faith enjoys choosing the colours and opening and capping the crayons. The worksheet shows some of the animals we have covered under the My Father's World homeschool curriculum. She had even more fun with the Do-a-dot markers. I initially got a basic set of 4 (red, blue, yellow, green) and later got whatever other colours I could find. Faith had fun dotting all the different colours. I like it that the names of the colours are shown clearly on the markers and it's a lesson on learning about colours too. :) The weather was good and Faith accompanied mummy for a swim at the pool. It started to rain just as we stepped out of the pool! Thank God for holding back the rain clouds while we were swimming! Faith's hair was a bit too long and thick for the hot weather recently and we once again visited Kcuts at Nex to look for Auntie Mandy. She's good and fast with children. Faith was initially smiling and waving at everyone before her turn but when she got seated with the bib around her, she started to show signs of rejection. Mummy had to quickly distract her in order to complete the haircut. Recent developments for Faith:
1) It has been proven - she has a powerful voice. During my last swim, which I went alone, Faith called "Mama" from our 10th storey apartment and Mama could hear her loud and clear from the pool a distance away. Mama is amazed! 2) She's able to search for the correct key to our main door from a bunch of keys, be it Papa's or Mama's set of keys. 3) She's able to recognise directions to places which we usually visit. Like the way from the NTUC supermarket to the lift we usually use. Thank God and praise God for the development we see in Faith! Amen! Today, we started a new unit. We'll be learning about Kittens, Purple and Kindness for the upcoming weeks. We went to the library this morning to get a set of new books too and look what we got from our supermarket trip this afternoon! We've got some purple jelly, plums, brinjals, purple dragonfruit and purple sweet potato snack. :)
